Family-Friendly Museums on the Massachusetts North Shore & Boston

North Shore Children’s Museum 

Located at 10 Main Street in Peabody, Massachusetts in the heart of the North Shore, the North Shore Children’s Museum (NSCM) is the perfect respite from winter and a place to encourage your child to learn through play and exploration. 

With 15 hands-on exhibits including Farm to Table, Sensory Play, Gross Motor Skills, and more, NSCM offers the perfect amount of education and imagination for children and their families. The NSCM calendar shows a comprehensive list of activities and exhibitions that are sure to entertain even the pickiest of children.

Museum of Science 

Located at 1 Science Park in Boston, along the Charles River, The Museum of Science is a nature and science museum and indoor zoological establishment. With Omni IMAX films, a planetarium, featured exhibits and permanent exhibits, children and families will want to re-visit this museum to continue exploring. 

One of the best things about the Museum of Science is that it is never the same place twice. Each season brings new exhibits for families to experience the latest in science, technology, and more.

New England Aquarium 

Located along Boston’s Wharf, The New England Aquarium is more than just a cool place to observe sea life. It is a place to see, touch, learn and explore the world under the sea and how humans are impacting it daily. 

Visit exhibits such as the Harbor Seals, the Shark & Ray Touch Tank, the Marine Mammal Center, Sea Jellies, Penguin Colony and so much more. Spend your day learning about all the marine species displayed at the Aquarium as well as species being studied by scientists including Right Whales, sea turtles and sharks. 

Many visitors just enjoy watching the African Penguin Colony in the lobby area of the Aquarium or walking around the Giant Ocean Tank, there are so many exhibits to keep your children enthused and learning.

Play, explore and learn at Boston Children’s Museum. Located at 308 Congress Street in Boston, The BCM is a perfect place to explore with your child. 

With award-winning exhibits specially designed for children and programs that incorporate STEM learning, literacy, arts, health, and more, the Boston Children’s Museum is a must-visit on your list of family-friendly museums.

Wenham Museum 

Located on Main Street in Wenham, Massachusetts, The Wenham Museum may be small but its exhibits can pack a punch. 

From the children’s room on the lower level with an amazing train display to the first-period home on the first level, there is so much to see and do.

The Claflin-Gerrish-Richards House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and one of the earliest dwellings on the North Shore. Self-guided tours allow families to explore what life was like in the 16th Century.
